SpinalCare Africa was established to address a critical gap in access to spinal care across Africa. Many individuals living with spinal injuries are unable to access timely surgery and rehabilitation due to financial and systemic barriers.

As a result, conditions that could be treated often lead to long-term disability, affecting not only individuals but their families and communities.

SpinalCare Africa exists to help bridge this gap—by working toward accessible spinal treatment, rehabilitation support, and increased awareness.

Across Africa, thousands of people suffer spinal injuries every year due to road traffic accidents, falls, untreated medical conditions, and violence. Many are left paralyzed or in chronic pain simply because they cannot afford the cost of surgery or access timely rehabilitation.

These injuries do not only affect the body — they shatter families, livelihoods, education opportunities, and the ability to dream again. In many communities, a spinal injury becomes a life sentence of disability, poverty, and isolation.

SpinalCare Africa exists to bridge this gap — to ensure that no one is denied care simply because of where they were born or what they can afford.

MEET OUR FOUNDER

Dr. Omotayo Omoteso

Founder, SpinalCare Africa

In 2008, I experienced a traumatic spinal injury following a road accident that left me temporarily paralyzed. That moment changed everything.

Through access to timely surgery and months of rehabilitation, I recovered. But the experience exposed a deeper reality—many people across Africa do not have access to the same level of care. Some remain untreated, not because their condition cannot be addressed, but because they lack the resources or support.

That journey, from injury to recovery, is documented in my book, Against All Odds. More importantly, it became the foundation for a larger mission.

SpinalCare Africa was born from this experience—to help create access to spinal care for those who would otherwise go without it.

The mission is simple:

To help more people walk again, regain dignity, and rebuild their lives.
